About Us

Thank you for visiting the official website of Therapeutic Services Ltd. We are a multidisciplinary clinic that offers a variety of services aimed towards the prevention and treatment of injuries. Therapeutic Services has been providing professional treatment for residents of Newfoundland and Labrador for over 30 years.

Therapeutic Services prides itself in providing a friendly and relaxing atmosphere. Treatments are provided in large private rooms to ensure client confidentiality. We also have a large rehabilitation fitness area that enables clients of all ages to optimize their recovery.

Liv-Terese K. Martyn BSc. PT, MCPA

Liv-Terese K. Martyn BSc. PT, MCPA

Born and raised in Norway, Liv-Terese graduated with a BSc in Physiotherapy from Manchester Royal Infirmary, England in 1999. Liv has always been very active with a wide variety in sports, but with a special interest in soccer and martial arts. Sports injuries are something Liv knows a lot about, as she was an injured athlete many times during her career. She has since been asked to join the Canadian Women's Soccer Rehabilitation Team as well as travelling annually to the Canadian Soccer Nationals to provide care to our top athletes.

Liv  is also specializing in treating TMJ Dysfunction as well as having great success with her other specialty; Women's Health. Being a mom of two, Liv know the importance of feeling good before and after giving birth, as well as the various symptoms and discomfort a women can go through, but may not talk about.

If you are seeing Liv for a work injury, injuries from a car accident, neck, back or any kind of arthritic pain; she will always approach her treatments with a focus on appropriate movement control, patient education and empowerment. Liv sees every client as a
unique individual. Her expertise lies in the combination of various mobilization techniques, exercise therapy as well as the use of acupuncture.

Liv works between the two clinics. She performs home visits to the elderly, performs ergonomic workstation consultations, pre-employment screening and lecturing various Injury Prevention Programs to athletes and health care professionals.
  

While balancing her passion for physiotherapy, Zumba is in her heart. Liv is a certified Zumba instructor; she works out, enjoys the outdoors and relaxes the best when she spends time at the cabin with her husband Daniel and their two beautiful children Hanz and Freya.

Daniel Martyn BSc. PT, MCSP, MCPA

Daniel Martyn BSc. PT, MCSP, MCPA

Daniel Graduated with Honors from the University of Manchester England with a Bachelor of Science (Physiotherapy) in 2000. Starting his Career in Manchester at the Oldham Royal Infirmary in Orthopedic Out- patients. Daniel moved back to Newfoundland in late 2000 to work with Eastern Health at which time he worked in orthopedics, oncology as well as Cardiology and ICU. After completing this 2 year contract Daniel ventured back overseas landing in Norwich England and returned to treating musculoskeletal injuries in both the public and private sector with the fortunate opportunity of treating Premiership football (soccer) players with Norwich City Canaries' many of which are still friends.

Returning to Canada in 2004 Daniel and his wife Liv-Terese became the owners of Therapeutic Services Physiotherapy and has been growing their business and education with completing post secondary courses such as Pelvic Instability using kinetic Control, Orthopedic Differential Diagnosis in Physiotherapy and The Assessment and Treatment of Running Injuries. Daniel has also been trained to treat TMJ dysfunction and is Matheson trained in Occupational Rehabilitation. Daniel has always had a passion for competitive sports, playing Baseball in the 1993 Canada Games and in Montreal with the ABC program as well as Racing locally on the ski slopes, the gym and kids keeps him busy these days. Daniel believes that education and active rehabilitation enable you to understand your condition and become an active partner in your treatment and recovery.

Brad Hopkins, BSc. PT, MCPA, CAFCI

Brad Hopkins, BSc. PT, MCPA, CAFCI

Brad Graduated with Distinction from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Science (Physiotherapy) in 2002. Brad started his career in Northern Ontario working with the Canadian Back Institute. He moved to Calgary, AB shortly after and had the opportunity to work closely with athletes, injured workers and individuals of all ages. While in Calgary, Brad was able to pursue his post graduate education and successfully completed specialized courses in Myofascial Release, Ergonomic Assessment, Functional Capacity/Job Site Analysis Evaluation, Advanced Orthopaedic Manual Physiotherapy and Acupuncture. Brad is especially interested in Acupuncture and has completed level 1, Level 2A and Level 3A with the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute.

Brad is registered with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Physiotherapists and is an Active member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. Brad is also an active member of the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute.

Outside of work, Brad is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys fishing, hiking and running. Brad believes that a thorough assessment combined with a specific exercise based program is the key to a safe and efficient recovery.

Justin Penney, Physiotherapist

Justin Penney, Physiotherapist

After graduatiing from Dalhousie University in 2013 with a Masters of Science in Physiotherapy, Justin has worked in both the public and private sectors as a physiotherapist.  In the hospital setting Justin worked closely with patients who required extensive post operative and medical treatment.  Alternatively.  Justin  has worked with clients in a clinic setting whose health concerns varied from returning to athletic competition to resuming employment.  In either environment Justin worked closely with the patient to achieve their goals through improving their pain, strength and range of motion.

 

In addition to being trained as a physiotherapist, Justin has achieverd a Bachelor of Kinesiology with Honors in 2007 and a Bachelor of Nursing from Memorial University in 2009. After completing the fast track BN program at MUN Justin began as a Registerd  Nurse in the areas of Cardiology, Emergency Services and Mental Health and Addictions.

 

As a trained nurse and physiotherapist Justin has accumlated an array of experciences within the health care field.  These experiences as an asset when treating your musculoskeletal, neurolgical, and cardiorespiratory needes.

Mike Mulrooney BSc. PT (hons) MCPA

Mike Mulrooney BSc. PT (hons) MCPA

Mike, as with Daniel, graduated with Honors from the University of Manchester, England, receiving a Bachelor of Science (Physiotherapy) degree in 2000.

Mike began his career in private practice and continues to work Tuesday and Thursday evenings for Therapeutic Services in addition to his full time Physiotherapy position with Eastern Health. Mike has extensive experience in the treatment of various musculoskeletal disorders, sports injuries, chronic pain issues, work related injury, MVA, as well as Geriatric conditions/disorders. Through his years of practice, Mike is pleased to have completed numerous physiotherapy professional development education courses which allows him to employ a wide range of "hands on" skills and knowledge, including but not limited to, Stability training/postural control exercise (Kinetic Control), acupuncture (Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute), and manipulative therapy (Canadian Academy of Manipulative Therapy).

Mike is a licensed member of the NL College of Physiotherapists, and currently sits on the College's Disciplinary Panel. Mike is also an active member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.

Ashley Loder

Ashley Loder

Ashley Loder graduated from Dalhousie University's School of Physiotherapy in October, 2010 and joined the team at Therapeutic Services shortly thereafter. During her studies, Ashley gained experience in all areas of physiotherapy but developed a special interest in musculoskeletal disorders, paediatric practice and neurological rehabilitation.

Ashley grew up in St. Lawrence, NL, and completed her undergraduate degree at Memorial before heading to Dalhousie. She is a self-proclaimed news junkie and has a keen interest in world affairs and issues in international health care. Ashley enjoys spending time with her family, participating in outdoor activities and taking in sporting events, especially when supporting her hometown team, the Laurentians!

Ashley values continuing education and has already completed an introductory course in Movement Impairment Syndromes taught by Shirley Sarhmann. She has served on the Nova Scotia Physiotherapy Association as a public relations student rep, as well as on the National Congress Education Committee as a student rep.

Ashley's treatment philosophy involves getting to the root of the presenting problem to prevent long term complications. Treatment entails hands-on approach in which Ashley focuses on patient's goals as well as educating the patient on their injury and how to prevent future injury or complications.

Kate Boone, R.M.T.

Kate Boone, R.M.T.

Kate graduated from the Massage Therapy program at Canadian Therapeutic College in Burlington, Ontario in 2003. She immediately started her career in the Greater Toronto Area working in a large multi-disciplinary, sports medicine clinic. Kate then had the opportunity to work closely with several high-level athletes and developed her interest in orthopaedic and sport massage. Kate then moved to a clinic where she was fortunate enough to work with several physiotherapists and five orthopaedic surgeons.  Kate was able to implement the knowledge she had gained through courses she had attended in such areas as, orthopaedic assessment, Myofascial release, sport massage, taping, and Thai massage. Kate continues to work closely with physiotherapists, and treat athletes since her re-location to St. John's in 2008.

Kate is registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Newfoundland and Labrador and is an active member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Massage Therapist's Association.

Outside the clinic, Kate enjoys an active lifestyle. Kate is a Martial Arts enthusiast who also loves to get out for a walk with her dog. Kate combines an individual massage treatment plan with a home based exercise regime for clients.

Beverly Rowsell RMT

Beverly Rowsell RMT

In 2004 Beverly graduated from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy, specializing in sports massage by completing over 50 hours of treatment with various sports teams. She has worked with Guelph University Track and field, University of Waterloo Department of Athletics, and the Tim Horton's Brier among other groups.

Beverly has a great deal of experience working with clients who have suffered Motor vehicle accidents having done so since 2006. She has worked alongside Physiotherapists and Chiropractors during this time and has had the opportunity to see a wide variety of injuries which has helped Beverly develop the skills to assist the healing process in all stages' of injury.

In Beverly's spare time she enjoys playing softball, volleyball and hockey. Partaking in these activities and taking continuing education courses such as deep tissue and soft tissue release, has helped Beverly get a good understanding of pre and post treatment plans, as well as insight into injury prevention. She has been a member of the Massage Therapy Association of Nova Scotia since 2006, recently becoming a member of the College of Massage Therapist of Newfoundland and Labrador along with the Newfoundland and Labrador Massage Therapist Association.
